Bredda David to Host Concert Celebrating Four Decades of Belizean Music

Music icon David Obi, widely known by his stage name “Bredda David,” is preparing for a special concert to highlight his contributions to the development of music in Belize. The father of Kungo Muzik has spent four decades making music with some of Belize’s great musicians and with his own Tribal Vibes band. The concert, scheduled for Friday, August 15, at the Bliss Center for the Performing Arts, will be showcasing songs from more than 12 studio albums released over the years. He spoke with Love News today about the inspiration behind Kungo Muzik and the work he put in over the years to craft an Afro-Caribbean sound that is authentically Belizean.

Apart from his extensive music career and being the first Belizean to land a Hollywood contract, Bredda David also made many cultural contributions to Belize. He was the first President of the United Belizean Artists Association and is the current President of the Belize Universal Negro Improvement Association. He was the first Vice-President of the National Kriol Council and created the council’s flag. In 2024, he won the National Celebrations Commission’s Andy Palacio Award for Original Belizean Music.
