RENOWNED ATTORNEY-AT-LAW, Bert Samuels, will be one of three honourees at this year’s ‘Bring Back The Love football match, set to take place at the Harbour View mini stadium today, starting at 5 p.m., with Entertainers and Celebrities facing off against Media and Masters.
The other honourees include, top local female coach and administrators, Charles ‘Charley’ Edwards and former Reggae Girlz captain Alicia ‘One Left’ James.
Samuels, one of the most in-demand attorneys until his recent retirement, had an outstanding record, especially as a criminal defence attorney.
His has also been highly successful as a civil lawyer, while his opinions on legal and constitutional matters are frequently published by local and international media houses, and organisers of the event, Clive ‘Busy’ Campbell, said even though it is a football event, it is always important to highlight those who have made significant contributions to the country in their field of expertise.
“Over the years we have honoured people like that. We are not restricted to football people. It about bringing back the love to the society and honouring outstanding individuals and their work,” he said.
The event, which was customarily held on Labour Day, had to be rescheduled due to the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) final being held on that day; however, Campbell was philosophical about the adjustment.
“Bob Marley said, I am in no competition. So I’ve made my decision. Thank you lord for what you’ve done for me. It’s football we are dealing with. We have been doing this since 1996. And we will keep going,” he commented.
The Entertainers and Celebrities team will include the likes of Wayne Marshall, Theodore ‘Tappa’ Whitmore, Laa Lee, Jahshi, and Teddy Johnson.
While the Media and Masters team will comprise of persons such as George Davis, Christopher ‘Zidane’ Matthews, Owen Hill, Wayne Walker, Lloyd Richardson, Raymond Brown, Israel & Emanuel Redwood, Jah Mikes, Peter Grant, Fabian Davis, and Lincoln Taffe.
The event is sponsored by the RJRGLEANER Communications Group, Western Sports, KFC, WISYNCO, Sports Gear, Violence Prevention Alliance, and Rainforest.
