Buju Banton’s ‘Too Too Bad’ Debuts at No. 3 on U.S. iTunes Albums Chart

Reggae icon Buju Banton has added another milestone to his storied career after his latest studio album, Too Too Bad, debuted at No. 3 on the U.S. iTunes Top Albums Chart, underscoring the enduring global appeal of one of Jamaica’s most celebrated musical ambassadors.

Released on July 18, the 13-track project quickly climbed the digital charts, trailing only two major international releases and outperforming several mainstream albums in one of the world’s largest music markets. The strong debut reflects continued demand for Banton’s music more than three decades after he emerged as one of reggae and dancehall’s defining voices.

The album features a blend of reggae, dancehall and socially conscious themes, with Banton exploring love, resilience, spirituality and cultural identity. In a recent interview, the Grammy Award-winning artiste described Too Too Bad as a project with broad appeal, saying, “There are tracks there for the ladies, there are tracks there for upliftment, and there are tracks there to show love in a different kind of way.”

Banton also reaffirmed his commitment to preserving the essence of Jamaican music, stressing that reggae’s cultural foundation should remain intact despite the industry’s evolution.

“There’s a culture that does not need to be reinvented. It needs to be embraced,” he said, urging younger artistes to understand and respect the legacy they inherit.

The chart success comes as Banton prepares to return to New York for the Roots and Rhymes Summer Tour at UBS Arena, where he will perform alongside Stephen Marley, Gramps Morgan, Lila Iké and Skillibeng. The concert marks his first performance in the city in two years.

Speaking about the upcoming show, Banton expressed his excitement about reconnecting with fans.

“It’s been two years since I performed in the great city of New York, and I’m looking forward to seeing the masses,” he said.

Widely regarded as one of reggae’s most influential figures, Banton has enjoyed a career spanning more than 30 years, producing numerous chart-topping albums and earning international acclaim for his distinctive voice and thought-provoking lyrics. His 2010 album Before the Dawn won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album, while his return to the stage in recent years has drawn sold-out audiences across the Caribbean, North America and Europe.
