Bulridge Rejects Claims Over Chiquibul Forest Management

Bulridge Limited has taken issue with what it describes as unverified information aired earlier this month by 7News Belize, responding to comments made by Jules Vasquez regarding the company’s role in the management of the Chiquibul Forest Reserve.  In the report, Vasquez criticized what he characterized as a shift by the Government of Belize from a long-standing conservation-based national standard to what he termed a more corporate-driven approach. He argued that allowing Bulridge to manage areas within the Chiquibul Forest Reserve reflects “corporate arrogance,” which he said is being aided and abetted by government policy decisions. Vasquez also noted that he did not believe he was obligated to seek a response from Bulridge prior to airing his report, as his criticism was directed primarily at the policy framework rather than the company itself.  Bulridge Limited has since responded publicly, rejecting the claims as misleading and inaccurate. In a press release, the company stated that it has been operating in Belize since 1982 as a sustainable forest management organization and holds a legally issued Long-Term Forest License from the Government of Belize. Bulridge emphasized that its activities in the Chiquibul Forest Reserve are carried out under the oversight of the Forest Department and in accordance with national regulations, approved management plans, and conservation protocols.  The company further clarified that the Chiquibul Forest Reserve is part of the National Protected Areas System, which allows for different management arrangements across neighboring protected areas. Bulridge reiterated its position that it supports collaboration with conservation groups, researchers, and other stakeholders, provided all activities are coordinated through the proper authorities.
