Captain of Jamaica’s National Senior Women’s Football Team, Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw, was not named to the 23-member team for the two international friendlies against Peru.
The Reggae Girlz will take on the South American side in Lima, Peru on February 23 and 26.
This will be the first meeting between both teams since the 2019 Pan American Games where Jamaica secured a 1-0 victory.
Both teams are using the fixtures as part of their preparation for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.
Coach of the Reggae Girlz, Hubert Busby, says the racist and misogynistic abuse the striker faced during a Woman’s Super League match had nothing to do with the decision not to include shaw in the squad.
Busby says he’ll be using the games to re-introduce some players to the squad.
