Bunting Moves to Discredit Chang’s Role in 2024 Murder Reduction

Opposition spokesman on national security, Senator Peter Bunting, says portfolio minister, Dr. Horace Chang, doesn’t deserve much credit for the reduction in major crimes, especially murder, in 2024.

Police statistics show that 1,139 murders were recorded in 2024. That’s 265 fewer than 2023.

In a statement last Thursday, Dr. Chang commended the Jamaica Constabulary Force, JCF, for what he says was an outstanding performance last year.

Minister Chang attributed the achievement to the comprehensive investments made by the government in the JCF.

He credited the expansion of human resource, training, technology and physical infrastructure as well as the force’s highly motivated workforce and effective leadership.

But according to Senator Bunting, were he operating with the same resources as Dr. Chang, his record of achievement would be far superior.
