A Burrell Boom resident is on bail for a drug charge but remains in police custody as investigators probe his possible connection to a robbery reported in Sandhill earlier this week. Twenty-seven-year-old barber Anthony Lloyd Reyes appeared before the Chief Magistrate on Thursday afternoon where he was read a single charge of possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply after police reportedly found 6.05 grams of suspected cocaine in his possession. Reyes pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of three thousand dollars plus one surety of the same amount. As part of his bail conditions, he must sign in weekly at the Burrell Boom Police Station between six a.m. and six p.m. His next court date is set for April. However, before he could leave the court compound, Criminal Investigation Branch officers detained him pending an investigation into an armed robbery in Sandhill. According to police, on Monday, February 9, shortly after four fifteen in the afternoon, officers responded to information about a grey van with tinted windows believed to be carrying suspects fleeing a robbery in Sandhill toward the Burrell Boom area. The vehicle reportedly sped off when intercepted but later stopped along the Burrell Boom–Hattieville Road. Police say Reyes identified himself as the driver. During a search, officers discovered a small plastic bag containing suspected cocaine. The substance was later weighed and amounted to 6.05 grams. Investigations into the reported robbery continue while Reyes remains detained in connection with that matter.
