Bus Owners Condemn Highway Fight Between Rival Drivers

The Belize Bus Owners Association (BBA) has issued a strong condemnation following the circulation of the video where the drivers of Russel’s Bus and Central Transit Bus Company were engaged in a physical altercation on the Philip Goldson Highway.  The footage depicts one driver boarding another bus, issuing threats, and physically assaulting another driver, an act the BBA says is completely unacceptable. In a statement, the Association stressed that violence, intimidation, or confrontation, especially within the public transportation sector, endangers passengers, undermines public confidence, and damages the reputation of the industry.  The BBA clarified that neither of the bus lines involved in the incident is a member of the Association and that it does not represent the operators shown in the video. It emphasized that the conduct displayed does not reflect the standards, values, or code of conduct upheld by BBA members.  Despite this, the Association says it will reach out to the operators involved in the interest of public safety, urging calm, de-escalation, and responsible behavior. The BBA noted that disputes within the industry must be resolved through lawful and appropriate channels, grounded in mutual respect.  The association made it clear that violence and misconduct have no place in the industry and that it will continue advocating for standards that protect passengers, operators, and the integrity of public transportation in Belize.
