WITH THE Concacaf W Qualifiers set to begin in October later this year, Reggae Girlz head coach Hubert Busby Jr said he is looking to bolster the national programme with several new faces to the squad.
Busby was speaking in a pre-match press conference ahead of Jamaica’s match against England today at the King Power Stadium in Leicester.
The Reggae Girlz boss said the national programme has highlighted a number of players who it believes can be new additions for the long-term future of the team.
“Let’s continue to increase the pool and make it more competitive,” he said. “We’ve talked about wanting to be one of the top three teams in Concacaf and you only do that by increasing the player pool and making competition for places in each and every camp.
“I’m glad that we have been able to see some new players emerge in these last few games against some really tough opposition.”
Busby explained their recent run of games over the last calendar year has been used as preparation for their 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign as well as introducing several players to the squad.
Taylor Hinds, Natasha Thomas, Nyema Ingleton, Reanna Blades, Naya Cardoza, Amelia Van Zanten, and Jaileah McPherson have all made their senior debuts for the Girlz since 2024.
Busby has also used this camp as a way to introduce England-based players to the squad.
Billericay Town Ladies defender Romany Wellington and Brighton midfielder Clarabella Hall were involved in Busby’s training sessions over the past week, but are not expected to feature against England today.
“These are our England-based players who are coming through our under-20 programme,” he explained.
“It allows for us this opportunity to bring them in, it allows for them to find out a little bit more in terms of our playing model, get to know some of the senior women and get to know what it means to be a senior Reggae Girl.”
“We thought it was a great idea for them to come in and train with the senior women. They’ve done very well not to just make up the numbers, but to see how they integrate into the larger group and, to a larger extent, increase our pool of players.”
Busby also confirmed today’s game against England is expected to be their final match before the W Qualifiers in October.
The match is set to kick off at 11 a.m.
