Business Sector Demands Clarity From PNP, JLP Over Manifesto Promises

President of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica, PSOJ, Metry Seaga, says with just less than a week to go before the September 3 general election, both the JLP and PNP appear to be rushing to announce benefits and promises.

Speaking on Nationwide at Five on Thursday, he says Jamaicans should demand more from both.

The PSOJ, in a statement earlier this week, called on the parties to publish the five-year revenue impacts and financing measures for their plans.

Similar concerns have been expressed by the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce, JCC.

The JLP has proposed reducing the income tax rate from 25-percent to 15-percent.

While the PNP has promised to increase the income tax threshold to 3-point-5 million dollars.

Reacting to both proposals, President of the Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters Association, JMEA, Catherine Silvera, notes that neither has clearly outlined how their promises will be achieved.

Meanwhile, President of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce, Phillip Ramson, says neither party has outlined a clear plan to grow the economy.
