It will be a busy September for dancehall star Lisa Hyper. She is excited about the release of her latest EP, Golden Fleece, which will be released on September 5, and is “cautiously optimistic” about her upcoming court case on September 10.
She has been focusing all her energies on her soon-to-be-released EP.
“I believe I am a ‘Golden Fleece’, you know the myth. I believe I am the embodiment of the Golden Fleece, not just musically but spiritually as well. In the myth, the fleece symbolises power and wealth, and independence, and there is a quest for men to get their hands on it. I know I am that golden prize,” Lisa Hyper, whose real name is Felicia Gooden, said laughing.
The new, seven-song EP, will feature collaborative songs such as Live the Life, featuring Eddy G, and The Golden Fleece, featuring Rajah Wild.
The EP will also feature singles such as Hard Drive, Caan Leave Yu, Self Love, Buck Up Pon God, Cups Up and Soul Cry, where she addresses her mental health issues.
Some of the labels contributing to the EP include Ivey League Productions, Ireland Records, Hard Drive, Knackout Productions, Double R Records and Levels Production.
One of the first singles from the EP, the Ireland Records-produced Caan Leave Yu, was released a few days ago, racking up thousands of streams all over the world.
“ Caan Leave Yu is already on the Apple charts in territories like Vietnam, South Korea, Lithuania, Montenegro and Niger,” Lisa Hyper said.
Given the early buzz around the song, she will be releasing a video next week to capitalise on the spike in interest.
Lisa Hyper, formerly known as the ‘First Lady of Gaza’, has been a major figure in Vybz Kartel’s Portmore Empire. She has been ordered to return to the Kingston and St Andrew court on September 10 to answer charges of disorderly conduct.
“The court is waiting to see a copy of my medical files, in order to make a ruling in my case. I am an optimistic person overall, so mi no mek nothing worry me. God knows best,” she said.
As part of her journey back, Lisa Hyper plans to launch the Gooden Foundation for Mental Health and Down’s Syndrome. The Soul Cry singer has appealed to persons with mental health challenges to follow the advice of professionals.
She is known for songs such as Champion Bubbler, Sculpture, Nuh Frighten, and Bills featuring Gaza Kim.
