Butane Prices Rise Slightly Across Belize

Consumers are paying slightly more for liquefied petroleum gas, commonly known as butane, following the introduction of new controlled prices today.  The Supplies Control Unit says the price of LPG has increased by eight cents per gallon for the current shipment. The adjustment is mainly due to an increase in the price paid to acquire the product. Under the new price structure, LPG is being sold in urban areas at one dollar and thirty-eight cents per pound, or six dollars and one cent per gallon. These prices apply in Belize City, Belmopan, San Ignacio, Benque Viejo del Carmen, Orange Walk, Corozal, Dangriga and Punta Gorda.  Consumers in rural areas are paying one dollar and forty cents per pound, or six dollars and eleven cents per gallon.  The controlled wholesale price is four dollars and forty-one cents per gallon across all six districts.  The Supplies Control Unit says the prices apply to imported LPG containing a seventy-to-thirty mixture of propane and butane, as required under Belize’s national standard.  The new prices took effect today, Wednesday, August 5.
