BYD Launches Song Plus SUV in Belize

2 weeks ago 10

Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD is expanding its presence in Belize with the unveiling of its latest model on the local market. The company today launched the BYD Song Plus, a crossover hybrid SUV and BYD’s best-selling vehicle globally, marking another milestone since the brand’s official entry into Belize just months ago in March. Love News Karil Wallace was at the event. Here is his story

Karil Wallace, Love News: BYD officially launched its line of electric and hybrid vehicles in Belize on March 28, 2026 at the design Depot compound on the Phillip Goldson Highway in Belize City. Today marks another milestone for the company with the unveiling of the BYD’s Song Plus, a crossover hybrid SUV and BYD’s best-selling vehicle globally now available on the local market in the country of Belize. Managing director Ryan Marin told us more about the unveiling and launch of the Song Plus in Belize.

Ryan Marin, Managing Director, BYD Belize: “The last time we were talking about the Shark pickup truck which is you know a very innovative and first time introduction for Belize now we’re introducing a flagship SUV which is called the Song Plus and this is a plug-in hybrid SUV. EV’s and hybrids it’s becoming a buzzword now because of what’s going on in the world and we fear that you know that’s not going to change anytime soon. So we have so many customers calling and coming in because you know they figured enough is enough let’s get into something that is going to not only save the environment but lower costs at home, right? Because ultimately people are paying out of pocket for their gas bills and it’s not slowing down.”

Karil Wallace, Love News: Marin also spoke on the significance of being able to charge the Song Plus  from the convenience of your home.

Ryan Marin, Managing Director, BYD Belize: “What this offers you is the ability to plug in at home, charge the vehicle with the fixed electricity rates and that’s not going to be going up anytime soon or it’s not as volatile as the gas prices are. And so you’re able to plug this in, drive it around as an EV for majority of your short trips, what that day looks like might depend on the family, going to school, going to work, to go get groceries so you could not spend the bulk of that money to do your daily runs but if you do want to take a long trip on the weekends, go visit family, take the family out, you don’t have to worry about range, right? You have 1100 kilometers or about 800 miles of range. The engine on board just acts as a generator, right? So it’s not taking on the load of the transmission and differential and drive shaft and all these different components that you know internal combustion engines usually have like on your, you know, Chevy Equinox or something like that. This is looking at it far more efficient. This is like 90% efficiency in the use of energy and so what that translates to is less money being spent on fuel and more fun being had driving around.”

Karil Wallace, Love News: When asked about the local market’s reception of BYD, Marin spoke on the sales since the company officially opened its doors in Belize and highlighted the restocking of previously introduced models.

Ryan Marin, Managing Director, BYD Belize: “Well, the response is actually good because we’ve sold out of most of our models that we’ve introduced. We do have a restock coming so fear not if you’re looking for a pickup truck, you know, everything’s on the way. We recently got in these Songs and they’re so competitively priced when you’re looking at new vehicles, right? The new car market has always been the smallest market in Belize because of the affordability aspect. But now we’re introducing something that is within reach of majority of the car buying in Belize and with financing readily available, we have two major banks standing behind the brand willing to finance 100%, willing to throw in insurance in some instances so there’s really very few reasons not to get in one of these.”

Karil Wallace, Love News: Today’s launch starred representation from local banks, utility companies namely BEL and BWSL’s vehicle unit and members of the assets and utilities management unit on the Ministry of Finance. With the addition of the Song Plus BYD continues to expand its footprint in Belize offering consumers another option as the demand for fuel efficient and electric vehicles continues to grow locally. For BYD, today’s launch represents not just the introduction of a new model but a vote of confidence in Belize’s growing market for hybrid and electric vehicles. For Love News, I am Karil Wallace.
