Cabinet has endorsed an updated National Water Resources Management Policy, Strategy and Action Plan covering the period 2024 to 2034, setting out a long-term framework for the coordinated management of Belize’s freshwater resources. The policy establishes an evidence-based and financially sustainable approach to water governance and directs all ministries and statutory bodies with water-related responsibilities to align their programmes accordingly and work collaboratively through the Belize Water Advisory Council. In infrastructure developments, Cabinet also approved a loan to support the construction of a wastewater collection and treatment system on Caye Caulker. The project is intended to improve sanitation services provided by Belize Water Services Limited. Government will now seek approval from the House of Representatives to enter into a sovereign-guarantee agreement for a ten-million-U.S.-dollar loan from the Inter-American Development Bank to be on-lent to the utility company. Cabinet was also updated by the Ministry of Health and Wellness on two confirmed cases of tuberculosis. Authorities say both patients are receiving appropriate treatment and are responding well, while monitoring continues to safeguard students and the wider public. Meanwhile, Cabinet is encouraging Belizeans to maintain healthy lifestyles through regular exercise and outdoor activities as part of broader national wellness efforts.
