Call Center Agent Gunned Down in Bold Belize City Ambush

A brazen early morning shooting has left a Belizean family mourning the loss of a second relative in just two years.  Twenty-two-year-old Daniel Tillett, a call center agent of Belize City, was traveling on his motorcycle along Antelope Street Extension at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, when three men ambushed him and unleashed a barrage of bullets that ended his life. Tillet was heading toward Hilda Foreman Street when the men reportedly exited a yard, each carrying a gun and opened fire. The gunshots proved fatal and as Tillet’s body fell into a nearby roadside drain, the three assailants made their escape onto Rueben Moralez Street.  The attack is considered bold and daring, as several officers were in the general vicinity and police cameras monitor the area. Assistant Superintendent of Police Stacy Smith provided additional details today.

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “Officers that were conducting patrols in the general vicinity heard several shots being fired. The scene of the shooting was established and the responding officers observed the apparent lifeless body of Tillett which exhibited gunshot wounds. A police camera in the area was able to capture the entire incident and the video footage is now being carefully reviewed by the investigators with a view to finding the persons responsible for this murder.”

Although police say no definitive motive has been established, ASP Smith confirmed that Tillet was known to authorities and is suspected of being an active participant in criminal activities in the area. Tillet had previously been charged for the 2021 murder of Derron Hernandez and later, in July 2023, for being a member of a gang. That charge came after Tillet had discovered the lifeless body of his 18-year-old brother Gabriel Tillet, in the Lord Ridge Cemetery just a week earlier.  Tillet’s body is currently at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital awaiting a post-mortem examination.
