Canada Issues Travel Warning for Belize Over Gang Violence Concerns

Earlier this week, Canada updated its 2025 global travel advisory list, adding Belize among several international destinations, grounded in safety concerns. The advisory cited issues such as gang-related violence in Belize. Love News spoke with Minister of Tourism Anthony Mahler, who noted that such advisories are often unavoidable and may not accurately reflect the current safety situation in the country.

Anthony Mahler, Minister of Youth and Sports: “There are times when these things are done for reasons other than anything happening in the country because I don’t see any uptick in crime, I don’t see any of these things happening right now but it happens and we have to continue to navigate through all of that. So it’s not an easy thing to push an industry like tourism forward especially in these troubling times of global uncertainties.” 

The advisory was released on June 6.
