Bronx rapper Cardi B took to social media on Monday with a cryptic message of empathy for pop singer Britney Spears tweeting:
“Just know … I understand Britney Spears.”
The post on X, came after videos and photos of the Grammy-winning rapper spending time with Nigerian goalkeeper Maduka Okoye reignited speculation about their relationship.
Cardi’s comment appeared to reference the overwhelming public scrutiny that accompanies celebrity life. Britney Spears experienced an unprecedented level of global fame in the late 1990s and early 2000s, becoming one of the most heavily photographed celebrities in the world.
Over the weekend, Cardi and Maduka Okoye were spotted enjoying an upscale waterfront dinner in Venice, Italy, where they were seen sitting side by side in a relaxed setting overlooking one of the city’s iconic canals.
Their Italian outing follows a series of public appearances that first sparked dating rumors earlier this month.
The two first crossed paths during Paris Fashion Week, where fans noticed an undeniable chemistry between them. A week ago, social media erupted after Cardi was photographed holding hands with the Super Eagles goalkeeper as he escorted her to her seat at a fashion show.
Photos and videos from the event showed the pair seated together, while later footage captured Cardi smiling, laughing, and chatting animatedly with Okoye from a balcony.
The two also spent additional time together later that day during a Messika event in Paris, where they appeared completely engrossed in conversation. Throughout the evening, Cardi was seen smiling and reacting enthusiastically as they talked, further fueling speculation that their connection extends beyond friendship.
The attention surrounding Okoye has even reached fellow superstar Jennifer Lopez, who added to the online buzz after reposting an Instagram post featuring the Nigerian footballer.
Meanwhile, the growing speculation has drawn reactions from people close to Okoye. Jelicia Westhoff, the goalkeeper’s ex-girlfriend, publicly called him out on social media after photos of him spending time with Cardi surfaced online.
The public interest comes as Cardi continues to balance her thriving music career with motherhood. The rapper is the mother of three children, whom she shares with her estranged husband, Offset.
Neither Cardi B nor Maduka have publicly addressed the nature of their relationship.
