Caribbean Sprinter Vessel Runs Aground, All Passengers Safe

A Caribbean Sprinter passenger vessel ran aground in a mangrove area between Belize City and Caye Chapel on Saturday morning, triggering a swift response from crew members and emergency personnel. Both authorities and the company have confirmed that all passengers and crew members are safe, with no serious injuries reported. Preliminary information indicates that the vessel entered the mangrove area during a period of heavy rainfall, which significantly reduced visibility. Caribbean Sprinter also reported that the vessel was experiencing steering difficulties at the time of the incident. The company noted that the captain had only recently begun duties with the operator. Medical assistance was provided on site to passengers who requested it, with one passenger being treated and released, while a second passenger remains under medical care for a non-life-threatening rib injury. The vessel’s captain was also treated for a minor head injury. All remaining passengers were safely transferred to another vessel and were able to continue to their intended destinations. In a statement, Caribbean Sprinter said it has launched a full internal investigation into the incident. This includes an assessment of navigation equipment, such as GPS systems, and a review of the circumstances that led to the vessel running aground amid poor weather conditions. The company has assured the public that a comprehensive report will be released once the review is completed.
