A 22-year-old barber of Carmelita Village has been sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, but will serve one year, after pleading guilty to stealing a vehicle and cellphone belonging to a Belize City engineer. Anzur Jenkins appeared this week before Magistrate Mannon Dennison in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, where he pleaded guilty to two counts of theft. Jenkins was accused of stealing a black 2010 Infiniti vehicle valued at $22,000 and a $1,000 iPhone cellphone, the property of Raybert Tevin Laing, an engineer of #6637 Sunflower Street, Belize City. For his guilty plea, Jenkins was sentenced to one year imprisonment for the theft of the vehicle and six months for the theft of the cellphone. Magistrate Dennison ordered that both sentences run concurrently, instead of consecutively, since the offences arose from the same circumstances. As a result, Jenkins will serve 12 months of the total 18-month sentence. The incident dates back to Tuesday, October 7, 2025, when Laing reported to CIB Precinct 2 that his vehicle had been stolen sometime between 11:00 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. Police said the suspect, known to the complainant as Anzor Jenkins, took the vehicle without permission. An investigation was launched and an all-points bulletin was issued. In the early hours of Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at around 2:30 a.m., the stolen vehicle was intercepted on the George Price Highway in the Cayo District, in front of Tequila Night Club, by San Ignacio and Georgeville police. Police found Jenkins inside the vehicle, along with a blue iPhone 12 cellphone. Jenkins, the vehicle, and the cellphone were escorted to the San Ignacio Police Station, and later handed over to Belize City police. The items were positively identified by the complainant as his stolen property. On Thursday, October 9, 2025, Jenkins was interviewed by police and, in the presence of a Justice of the Peace, admitted to taking the vehicle and cellphone without permission and driving to Cayo. Jenkins was initially arraigned on Friday, October 10, 2025, when he pleaded not guilty and was offered bail of $5,000 plus two sureties of $2,500 each. He has since been on remand at the Belize Central Prison, where he will now serve his sentence.
