Carter nets brace as Maloney opens EFA lead

Jadel Carter scored a pair of goals to lead FC Maloney to a 5-1 spanking of Athletic International Academy (AIA) to open a three-point lead at the top of the Eastern Football Association of T&T Premier Division at the Clayton Ince Recreation Ground on Sunday (September 13).

Carter scored in the seventh and 53rd minutes, while Jaheim Prescott (13th), Naeem Crichlow (60th), and Sean Bonval (71st) were also on target for FC Maloney to cancel out Athletic International Academy’s lone reply from Malachi Woodley in the 20th minute.

With the win, FC Maloney climbed to 25 points from ten matches, three clear of former leaders Heatwave FC, who were stunned 3-1 by Eastern Connect FC in the opening match of the triple-header at the Claton Ince Recreation Ground.

For Eastern Connect, who improved to 18 points in the fifth spot, Giovanni Abraham was the hero with a late double in the 80th and 88th minutes, with teammate Tyrique Morris’ 76th strike drawing them level after Heatwave FC got the game’s opening goal in the 27th minute from Nathaniel Perouse.

With the loss, Heatwave slipped to second with 22 points, one more than FC Porto Arima and two more than FC Ginga.

In the other match at the Clayton Ince Recreation Ground, Natural FC got second-half strikes from Jemell Boatswain (75th), Israel Joseph (80th), and Craig Chambers (87th) to whip FC Porto Arima 3-1, with Jomaal Olliviere netting a 90th-minute consolation for the losers.

At Henry Street Recreation Ground, FC Ginga got a hat-trick from Stephano Christopher (22nd, 49th, and 87th) in their 5-0 hammering of SKHY FC.

Cameron Gulston had earlier fired home the opener after only four minutes while Stefon Pierre rounded off the scoring in the 90+2 for FC Ginga.

And at the Eddie Hart Grounds in Tunapuna, Wallerfield FC got a double from Gabriel Walter Thomas in the 53rd and 55th in their 4-1 come-from-behind defeat of Trinity Warriors.

Isaiah Chase (81st) and Nyron Dyer (83rd) added late items for Wallerfield FC in the win after the Trinity Warriors led 1-0 at the half thanks to Jeremiah Collins’ 22nd-minute opener.
