Despite being officially handed residential lots in Cattle Landing Village, many beneficiaries say they are still unable to locate, identify or even access the parcels assigned to them.
More than 400 residential lots were distributed, but what began as an exciting opportunity has since turned into a frustrating search for many recipients who claim there are no clear markings or official guidance to help them identify their designated plots. Initially, officials cited heavy rains and waterlogged terrain as the main obstacle, explaining that the saturated conditions made it difficult to properly demarcate and access the land. But residents say that even with the arrival of the drier season, the situation remains unresolved. Love News spoke with Cattle Landing Village Chairman Earl Bowden, who acknowledged the concerns and offered reassurance to lot recipients that the matter is being addressed.
Earl Bowden, Chairman, Cattle Landing Village: “There is approximately 400 lots. 400 lots and purchase price has already been given out. However accessibility to these lots are not available at this time. There are no roads, there is no infrastructure in there. There is no lights, no water. However the minister has promised during the dry seasons the will start to build the road. I have not confirmed with him as yet if the dry season is about to enter into the dry season if the plan is still ongoing so until that is confirmed I’m looking for some information but I can assure the residents or the persons or the Belizeans who have gotten their purchase price for the plot of land that they cannot access it right now and it will take a little bit of time. I’m going to work on it. We’re going to have a meeting Saturday, this coming Saturday at Cattle Landing Community Center which that subject will be brought up and we will see where we are with that so far.”
Of the 400 lots, 100 were allocated to residents of Cattle Landing Village, while the remaining 300 were distributed among members of the public sector, including teachers, doctors and police officers. Chairman Bowden indicated that a meeting is scheduled within the next few days where land accessibility and proper identification of the lots will be discussed in detail.
