Cavalier, Montego Bay United Advance to JPL Semi-finals

Defending champions Cavalier and former winners Montego Bay United booked the last two semi-final spots in the Wray and Nephew/Jamaica Premier League, following second leg quarterfinal games at Sabina Park on Monday night.

Dwayne Atkinson’s goal in the first half of extra time gave Cavalier a 1-0 win on the night against Portmore United for a 2-1 aggregate score.

In the second game, Montego Bay United drew 1-1 with nine-man Tivoli Gardens to advance 3-2 on aggregate.

Brian Brown gave Montego Bay United the lead on 86 minutes but substitute Malik Cockings responded for Tivoli in the 94th minute.

Jourdaine Fletcher missed from the spot for Montego Bay United.

Tivoli’s goalkeeper, Nicholas Clarke, was shown a straight red card after appearing to barge the referee following his penalty save.

While Lennox Russell was sent off for two yellow cards.

Cavalier will now face Arnett Gardens in the first leg of semi-final-one on Thursday at 6 pm while Montego Bay United will tackle Mount Pleasant Academy at 8 pm in the second semi-final.

Both games are set for the Montego Bay Sports Complex.
