Police are investigating the theft of a licensed 9mm Glock pistol from a Caye Caulker business owner, who reported the firearm missing after a woman he knew left his residence. 73-year-old, Dennis James Gelinas, owner of Fishermen Rest on Calle La Poza, reported to Caye Caulker Police yesterday that his pistol, along with one magazine containing six 9mm live rounds, was stolen. The firearm is valued at two thousand five hundred dollars. Gelinas stated that on Sunday, July 20, at approximately 3am he fell asleep in his bedroom while watching television with a woman he knew as “Azmin” from her childhood. When he woke at 10am, Azmin was gone, and he discovered his firearm, which he typically kept in his pants pocket, was missing. Police visited and searched Gelinas’s residence but did not locate the firearm. A statement was recorded, and an all-formation message was issued. Authorities attempted to locate Azmin but learned she had left Caye Caulker on the 10:30 AM boat to Belize City yesterday. The investigation is ongoing.
