Cayo Motorcycle Crash Claims Life of 55-Year-Old Man

A tragic traffic incident over the weekend on Cristo Rey Road, Cayo District, claimed the life of a 55-year-old resident and left two young siblings hospitalized with injuries.  The fatal collision occurred shortly before 4:40 on Saturday afternoon near the entrance of the village. Police responding to the scene found a black and red Lifan motorcycle on the shoulder of the road along with 21-year-old Kevin Miranda of Red Creek and his 16-year-old sister, Crystali Miranda, both suffering from varying degrees of injuries.  Approximately forty feet away, officers discovered the motionless body of 55-year-old Aurelio Bonell beside his motorcycle. Initial investigations indicate that the Miranda siblings were traveling toward Santa Elena Town when Bonell, who was traveling in the opposite direction, allegedly veered into their lane, resulting in a head-on collision.  Emergency personnel transported Kevin and Crystali Miranda to the San Ignacio Community Hospital for treatment, while Bonell was taken to the hospital’s morgue, where he was officially pronounced dead at 6:21 Saturday evening.
