CEMO Urges Continued Vigilance as Hurricane Season Closes

With the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season now officially closed, the Belize City Council’s City Emergency Management Organization (CEMO) has released an end-of-year message thanking residents for their cooperation while urging continued vigilance and preparedness moving forward.  In its statement, CEMO reflected on the unpredictable nature of hurricanes, noting that even storms which do not make direct landfall can still pose serious risks to lives and property. While Belize City was fortunate to avoid major destruction this season, the organization extended sympathy to neighboring Caribbean territories, particularly Jamaica, which experienced significant impacts from Hurricane Melissa.  CEMO reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to strengthening emergency response plans, improving infrastructure readiness, and enhancing communication systems to ensure rapid and effective action when storms threaten. The organization also emphasized that community safety depends heavily on public awareness, preparedness, and cooperation.  Officials encouraged residents to carry forward the lessons learned during the season by staying informed, maintaining disaster preparedness plans, and supporting one another to build stronger, more resilient communities.  CEMO concluded by thanking Belize City residents for their vigilance and partnership throughout the hurricane season and reminded everyone to continue prioritizing safety year-round.
