Determined not to allow his girlfriend to be violated yesterday, a Central man chased a bandit and held on to him after he snatched a hand band from his lady love.
While he did not want to be interviewed, Guardian Media was told that the hero, who identified himself only as Josiah, was walking with his girlfriend along the Brian Lara Promenade around 2 pm, when the bandit snatched the piece of jewellery off her hand and ran.
Josiah chased the suspect along the sidewalk and caught up with him outside Nicholas Towers, where he tackled him and held him in a headlock until police arrived.
While police were taking the suspect away, Josiah was heard telling the suspect that the hand band belonged to his girlfriend’s grandmother.
“How much you could get for that? A $400? A $500?” he asked the man as he was being whisked away.
After the video was posted on social media, commentators encouraged the woman to marry Josiah.
One woman, Khadija London wrote, “Girl u better marry that man.”
Known for his wit, Ancil “Blaze” Isaac Jr sought to liken himself to the hero, writing, “He move like me dey!!! lol. Well done Bro!!”
Josiah, who complained about his shoes bursting during the chase, was virtually comforted and complimented by Soo Mark, who said, “We’re not talking about that man sprinted in Oxfords and still caught the assailant.”
Kavi Din agreed, saying, “Is not so much that he run down and catch the bandit eh, Is running down and catching d bandit in those SHOES. Respect.”
Talitha Ramdeen Quirico advised the damsel, no longer in distress, to turn the tables and “arrest” Josiah.
“That is man…. Girl lock he down one time,” she said.
However, Chemo Anakin, though, believed Josiah should be granted his “freedom.”
“Man run down the bandit, grab him and off tuh jail so that man loss he freedom. Now all yuh want de woman marry de fellah (Josiah) so he could lose he freedom too? All yuh good yes!!!”
