CEO Chester Williams responds to BBA bus service threat

Following the Belize Bus Association’s announcement, Love news sought a response from the Ministry of Transport on where the matter currently stands. When we caught up with the CEO within the Ministry of Transport, Chester Williams, he explained that any decision on the BBA’s request for the reinstatement of the diesel subsidy ultimately rests with Cabinet.

Chester Williams, CEO, Ministry of Transport: “That matter is going to be dealt with by the Cabinet and that’s all I will say on that.”

Reporter: This is the second time the BBA has retaliated in this way. In the release, they also described the matter as a common sense issue. What is your response to that statement?

Chester Williams, CEO, Ministry of Transport: “I will refrain from answering that question.”

Reporter: Well, is the ministry prepared to handle another stop operation by them ? 

Chester Williams, CEO, Ministry of Transport:  “That’s, like I said, that’s the matter for the Cabinet to decide. Our ministry is going to comply with whatever decision Cabinet makes on that matter.”

Despite announcing the planned suspension, the Association says it remains willing to meet with the Government immediately. It is calling for the diesel subsidy to be reinstated retroactively, saying this would help prevent an interruption in public transportation.
