Francette-Williams, a Trinidadian national, was appointed in August last year and led the agency through a pivotal period for VC Bird International Airport. Her tenure coincided with operational changes and ongoing efforts to enhance the airport’s efficiency and passenger experience.

Local reports suggest the resignation was requested by her superiors, though no official reason has been provided. The Airport Authority has not issued a public statement elaborating on the circumstances surrounding her sudden departure.

In the interim, Joseph Samuel has been named acting CEO as the search begins for a permanent replacement.

The Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority (ABAA) was established by an Act of Parliament in November 2006 as a statutory body mandated to oversee the ownership, control, management, and development of the nation’s airports.

Its primary functions include efficiently managing and administering airport operations, constructing and upgrading aviation facilities, operating airport services in accordance with relevant legislation, and setting and collecting authorized fees. The ABAA currently oversees VC Bird International Airport and Codrington Airport in Barbuda. Before its formation, these airports were managed by the Ministry of Civil Aviation through an Aerodrome Superintendent. Between 2006 and 2009, a full transition integrated all airport departments under the ABAA.
