Two-time champion jockey Shane ‘Canterman’ Ellis has expressed his elation at being named among the five sports personalities who will be honoured at the National Honours and Awards function on will be honoured on Heroes Day in October.
Ellis will receive a badge of honour for meritorious service in the sport of horse racing.
Ellis, who has ridden over 1,000 winners at Caymanas Park, is also a seven-time winner of the Jamaica Derby.
Ellis told Nationwide Sports that there’s still unfinished business in one particular event, which he thinks will complete the set.
Ellis, is also the son of former three-time champion jockey Winston Ellis. For him, both his parents are big inspiration in his career.

Former world 100 champion Yohan Blake, footballer Ricardo Gardener, former West Indies T20 captain Rovman Powell, Nicholas Ford, Dr. Michelle Holt are the other sports personalities who’ll be recognised.
Blake will receive membership in the Order of Distinction, Commander Class.
Gardener will be conferred with membership to the Order of Distinction in the rank of Officer. Powell will also receive membership to the Order of Distinction in the rank of Officer.
Dr. Holt will also be conferred with membership to the Order of Distinction in the rank of Officer for her contribution to medicine. And Ford will receive a badge of honour for national service and volunteerism in the fields of Public Service, Physiotherapy and Sports.
