Champs favourite Lampart secures shot put, discus double at Manchester meet

CLARENDON COLLEGE’S Marla Kay Lampart, one of the favourites to win the Class One girls’ shot put and discus events at this year’s ISSA-GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Championships (Champs), was a double-winner at last Saturday’s JAAA Charlie Fuller field events meet at Manchester High school.

Lampart won the shot put with a best of 13.33 metres ahead of her teammate Jamelia Young who threw 11.79m for second. Rehana Biggs of St Jago High was third with 11.25m.

Lampart returned to complete the double after a throw of 45.77m in the discus. St Jago’s Biggs was second with 41,93m with third going to Manchester High’s Javaine Lindsay with 36.62m.

Young also had two victories at the meet while competing in Class Two. She won the shot put with 13.10m, ahead of St Jago’s Jessica Thompson with 11.30m. In the discus she threw 41.36m to win ahead of Davieka Lewis of St Elizabeth Technical who was second with 31.48m.

Following his win the previous week at the Purewater R Danny Williams meet, Jamaica College’s (JC) Joseph Salmon maintained his winning form in the Class One discus. The former Clarendon College thrower, now in his first year at JC, had a winning mark of 58.79m. Kingston College (KC) athletes placed second and third. Dylan Logan was second with 55.27m with third going to Daijon Budhai with a throw of 52.19m.

KC’s Despiro Wray was an easy winner in the Class One shot put with a heave of 17.55m. Munro College’s Devonte Edwards was second with 16.91m with third going to Cleon Sewell of Clarendon College wit h16.57m.

Calabar High’s Khamali Kennedy was a winner in the Class Two discus with a distance of 55.95m. Munro College’s Javonte Smith was second with 53.27m while his teammate Brandon Lawrence was third with 44.79m..

Smith improved his position in the Class Two shot put after winning with a heave of 18.14m. Placing second was Calabar’s Kimali Kennedy with 16.76m while Munro’s Lawrence was third with 15.65m.
