Chester says cops are now desirous of joining the Department of Transport 

A number of police officers are looking to leave the Belize Police Department and take up jobs at the Department of Transport.  That is according to Transport CEO Chester Williams, who says several officers have expressed an interest in being transferred. Williams, a former Commissioner of Police, believes their experience in law enforcement and their knowledge of legislation would make them a good fit for the department. 

Chester Williams, CEO, Ministry of Transport: “And I can say to you there are many police officers who have been asking for transfer over to transport. Many. If we entertain all of them the police is going to be left with nobody. That’s the truth. But what we want, again, is people who can bring value. Police officers are already trained in traffic laws, extensively. So it is easy for us to look at somebody from the Police Department to full that vacancy I’m not going to say that is the case because then we’re going to open the application to everybody out there. But again experience is going to have a great weight on determining who fills that vacancy for the second deputy within the transport department. And again like I said we just want to make sure that we get the possible person who would be able to complement the work that both the CTO and Peter Williams are currently doing.”
