Chief Petty Officer Windel Ogaldez Becomes First Belizean to Complete India Gunnery Course

Chief Petty Officer Windel Ogaldez has become the first Belizean to complete a gunnery instructors course at INS Dronacharya in India. He trained alongside military personnel from ten countries, studying weapons systems, sensors, small arms and how to teach those skills to others.  The Belize Coast Guard says Ogaldez will bring that training back to the service and help train other officers. Rear Admiral Greg Soberanis says his achievement shows what Coast Guard personnel can do when given the opportunity to develop their skills.

And Ogaldez is not the only Coast Guard officer training overseas. Senior Chief Hilario Nunez is attending the Sergeant Major Academy in the United States, where senior enlisted officers learn how to advise commanders and mentor the people serving under them.  Soberanis says having both officers at international training institutions shows the Coast Guard’s commitment to investing in its people.

The Coast Guard says the training will help both officers strengthen the service when they return.
