Investigations are ongoing into a fire that broke out at a Children’s Authority safehouse in San Fernando on Sunday.

All six children and staff were safely evacuated from the facility.

According to initial reports, smoke was seen around 3:37 p.m. coming from a bedroom on the western side of the building’s second floor. An employee raised the alarm, and four co-workers quickly gathered the children and led them outside.

The adults attempted to extinguish the fire, but it spread quickly. Police and firefighters from the Mon Repos Fire Station responded and were able to put out the blaze.

Damage was confined to one bedroom and estimated at $15,000.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
