China has countered President Donald Trump’s across-the-board tariffs on Chinese products with its own set of duties on select U.S. imports.

According to Associated Press, China says it will implement a 15 per cent tariff on coal and liquefied natural gas products.

It is also slapping a 10 per cent tariff on crude oil, agricultural machinery and large-engine cars imported from the U.S.

The tariffs are set to take effect next Monday.

Beijing also announced Tuesday an antitrust investigation into Google, and other trade measures.

US tariffs on all Chinese goods come into force Tuesday.

Taxes on products from Canada and Mexico were also set to go into effect Tuesday, before Trump agreed to a 30-day suspension as those two countries acted to appease his concerns about border security and drug trafficking.

Trump says he plans to talk with Chinese President Xi Jinping in the next few days.
