Chronixx’s breakthrough project Dread & Terrible has officially surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify. It is his second project to reach the milestone following his debut album Chronology.
Released independently on April 1, 2014, under the Zinc Fence label, Dread & Terrible debuted at No. 1 the week of April 19 on the US Billboard Top Reggae Albums Chart and then returned to its zenith in July of that year. It lasted a total of 55 weeks, his longest charting project on the chart.
According to SoundScan data, sales skyrocketed from 400 units to 5,000 in a single week the end of July, driven by two New York City performances—first was his U.S. television on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on July 22, 2014. He performed “Here Comes Trouble” from the EP. accompanied by his Zinc Fence Redemption Band.
Chronixx on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on July 22, 2014Then his Central Park Summer Stage concert at Rumsey Playfield drew a capacity crowd of 5,500 attendees, including Mick Jagger and his daughters, while an additional 2,000 fans listened from outside the venue.
The 10-track project includes three dub versions, modern reggae classics such as “Here Comes Trouble,” “Capture Land,” and “Eternal Fire.”
Despite attention from major labels over the year, Chronixx has remained independent. “The Jimmy Fallon appearance brought a lot of light to Chronixx’s music,” said Pierre Bost, who was part of his management team at the time alongside Brendon ‘Daddi Barnz’ Sharpe and Esther ‘Keke’ Tomlinson. “A lot of record companies called or came to meet us, but we haven’t changed our plans to keep our music independent for now.”
Chronixx has since parted ways with his management team. His latest album is Exile, almost a decade after he debut album Chronolgy was released.
