As the Climate Resilient and Sustainable Agriculture Project, known as CRESAP, finalizes its expansion into the Toledo and Stann Creek districts, steps are being taken to ensure farmers in the south can effectively access its benefits. CRESAP is a national initiative aimed at helping farmers adopt climate-smart and sustainable agricultural practices, improving productivity while strengthening resilience to climate change. A key feature of the project is its Matching Grant Program, which provides co-financing to farmers investing in climate-resilient technologies and practices. As part of this expansion, CRESAP’s Implementation Unit is conducting specialized Climate-Smart Agriculture training for loan officers and staff of the Toledo Teachers Credit Union Limited. The training is part of the process to onboard the credit union as a participating financial institution under the project. The sessions are designed to equip TTCU staff with the skills needed to properly evaluate and process applications for climate-resilient farming investments. Officials say this will ensure that once the expansion is fully operational, farmers in Toledo and Stann Creek will have a knowledgeable financial partner to help them access matching grants and support sustainable agricultural growth in the region.
