Kingston, Jamaica. Monday, December 8, 2025: The Ministry of Health & Wellness has intensified its commitment to staff welfare with the successful staging of the first in a series of Healthcare Workers Support Fair at the Newell Health Centre in St. Elizabeth on Friday, December 5, 2025. The initiative directly supported hundreds of healthcare workers from St. Elizabeth, Manchester and St. Catherine who were affected by Hurricane Melissa, ensuring that their personal documents, including passports, TRNs, birth certificates, employee IDs, land records and titles, are replaced courtesy of the Ministry’s Staff Welfare Initiative.

Hosted in collaboration with the Southern Regional Health Authority (SRHA), the fair brought key government agencies directly to frontline workers, including PICA, NHT, NIRA, NLA and TAJ. Staff also accessed Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) counselling and Human Resource support such as MyHR+, PMAS and NHT-related services, reflecting the Ministry’s holistic approach to staff well-being. Additional onsite support included ICT assistance and professional photography for document processing was also present.

The Support Fair is a signature initiative under the Ministry’s Staff Welfare Programme, which is being rolled out in the affected regional health authorities. The fair also benefited members of the Newell community, as residents took advantage of the services offered by the various Government agencies.
The programme reinforces the Ministry’s recognition that healthcare workers are the backbone of the public health system and must be supported emotionally, physically, and administratively especially in times of challenges. The Ministry of Health & Wellness remains committed to creating a strong support framework for its employees as Jamaica continues to recover from Hurricane Melissa.
