A Coast Guard member from Big Falls, Toledo, is tonight behind bars at the Belize Central Prison after being arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court for the attempted murder of his estranged common-law wife, Police Constable Jessica Pou. The accused, 25-year-old Brian Chiac, appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate this afternoon, where he was read three indictable charges: attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm, and wounding. No plea was taken, and due to the seriousness of the offenses, the court denied bail. Chiac has been remanded until January 12, 2026, when he is scheduled to reappear for the attempted murder matter. According to the chilling police report and Pou’s account, the incident unfolded early Monday morning inside their Gibnut Street home. Pou, who is attached to Precinct One, told investigators that Chiac arrived home intoxicated around 3:35 a.m. and demanded that she transfer just over four thousand dollars from her savings to his account. When she refused, he accused her of infidelity, threatened to stab her, and became increasingly violent. Pou said she locked herself in the bedroom, but Chiac kicked through the bottom of the door, tore a hole large enough to crawl through, and gained access to the room. After retrieving a kitchen knife, Chiac allegedly stabbed Pou multiple times, four times to the left arm and twice to the right foot, despite her showing him proof that she completed the money transfer. Pou told police she lost consciousness several times, begged him to call for help, and that Chiac eventually dialed 911 only so she could briefly speak to the operator. During that short moment, Pou managed to give her address and confirm that she had been stabbed before the call was taken away from her. Responding officers found the constable lying on her back, covered in blood. She was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where she regained consciousness and provided the detailed account that led to Chiac’s arrest. During today’s arraignment, Chiac informed the court that he had been served with documents requiring him to appear before the Belize Family Court on December 10, 2025, after Pou applied for both a protection order and an interim order under the Domestic Violence Act. The Senior Magistrate explained that those hearings will determine the conditions under which he must stay away from the victim, and that if he remains on remand, a removal order will be issued for him to attend the Family Court session. If he secures bail from the High Court before that date, he will be required to appear at both the Belize Family Court on December 10 and the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on January 12 for the criminal proceedings. Tonight, PC Jessica Pou is recovering from her injuries.
