Commentator: JLP Should Have Already Settled Representatives for General Elections

4 months ago 23

Public commentator Germaine Barrett says the governing Jamaica Labour Party, JLP, should have already confirmed all 63 of its presumptive candidates for the next general elections.

His remark comes in light of Senator Delano Seiveright’s application to represent the JLP in North Central St Andrew, a seat held by outgoing member of parliament, Karl Samuda.

Seiveright’s entry could trigger a high-profile internal runoff, as Christian Tavares-Finson, son of senate president and JLP stalwart Tom Tavares-Finson, was reportedly set to be named as the party’s standard-bearer.

Barrett says the looming selection battle warrants close attention.

Meanwhile, Mr. Barrett adds that Seiveright may prove to be the strongest candidate to keep the seat in JLP hands.
