Commentators Divided on Second Political Debates

Political Commentators are expressing varying views following the national debate on the economy.

The second of three national debates, organized by the Jamaica Debates Commission, JDC, was held on Tuesday at 9PM.

With 90 minutes on the clock, team JLP with members Finance Minister, Fayval Williams, Health Minister, Dr. Chris Tufton and Education Minister, Dr. Dana Morris Dixon matched wits with the PNP’s Julian Robinson, Peter Bunting and Kisha Anderson.

Speaking during a a post debate discussion with Nationwide News, Member of the JADE Secondary Level Gold Club, Tariq Preddie says individual members of both team delivered a better debate than Saturday’s social issues debate.

Meanwhile, Political Commentator, Dr. Nadeen Spence says while team JLP aimed to answer the questions being asked, they lost out on style.

Dr. Spence also noted that because the debaters strayed away from the issues concerning the economy, the quality of the debate was poor.

And, Political Commentator, Germaine Barrett says the PNP won Tuesday’s debate on the economy.

Barrett says the Finance Minister, Fayval Williams was uncertain in her delivery on Tuesday.

The final debate will take place on Thursday, August 28 and will feature Prime Minister, Dr. Andrew Holness and Opposition Leader, Mark Golding.
