Convicted Rapist Leon Lamb Jailed for Over 21 Years After Home Invasion Attack

A convicted rapist, Leon Lamb, has been sentenced to 21 years, 1 month and 26 days in prison for the rape of a 30-year-old woman during a home invasion in September 2022.  The sentence was handed down today by Justice Nigel Pilgrim, who found that the offense caused severe psychological harm to the victim and involved significant aggravating factors. The court heard that the attack occurred in broad daylight inside the woman’s home and in the presence of her roommate.  According to evidence accepted by the court, Lamb gained entry to the house by force, pretending to be a police officer and carrying a firearm. During the assault, the victim was beaten, verbally degraded, and raped. In her victim impact statement, the woman described lasting emotional trauma, including shame, fear, and social withdrawal following the attack.  Justice Pilgrim set a starting point of 19 years, above the guideline sentence, citing the high level of harm. The sentence was increased due to the use of a weapon, forced entry, physical violence, verbal abuse, and the fact that the offense occurred in the presence of another person. The court further increased the sentence after noting that Lamb had a prior sexual offense conviction only months before this incident, which the judge said pointed to predatory behavior.  Mitigating factors were also considered. The judge acknowledged positive character references, Lamb’s completion of courses while on remand, and signs of rehabilitation, resulting in a reduction of the sentence. However, no reduction was granted for remorse, as the court found that Lamb expressed none.  After deducting time already served on remand, the final sentence amounted to 21 years, 1 month and 26 days. Justice Pilgrim also ordered that Lamb undergoes psychiatric treatment and mandatory counseling and imposed restrictions on his residence should he ever be released.  Lamb had denied the allegations at trial, claiming he could not recall his whereabouts at the time of the offense and insisting he was not armed. However, the judge found the victim’s testimony to be detailed, consistent, and credible, and relied on it in reaching a conviction.
