Cooking Gas Prices Rise Across Belize

Cooking gas prices went up today, with new controlled rates taking effect across the country. The Supplies Control Unit says the adjustment reflects an increase of thirty-three cents per gallon for the current shipment, mainly because of a higher acquisition price. The retail price in urban areas is now one dollar and forty-seven cents per pound, or six dollars and forty-two cents per gallon. That applies to Belize City, Belmopan, San Ignacio, Benque Viejo del Carmen, Orange Walk, Corozal, Dangriga and Punta Gorda.  In rural areas across all six districts, consumers will pay one dollar and forty-nine cents per pound, or six dollars and fifty-two cents per gallon. At those rates, a hundred-pound refill costs one hundred and forty-seven dollars in urban areas and one hundred and forty-nine dollars in rural communities.  The import wholesale price is four dollars and eighty-two cents per gallon nationwide.  The Supplies Control Unit says the controlled prices apply to imported LPG with a seventy-to-thirty propane and butane mixture, as required by Belize’s national standard.
