Belize’s cooperative sector is being positioned as a powerful economic tool, not just for organization, but for financial growth and investment. Registrar of Cooperatives, Gareth Murillo, is emphasizing that one of the biggest advantages of the cooperative model lies in its ability to attract funding and donor support, something I ndividual small producers often struggle to achieve on their own. His comments come on the heels of two new cooperatives inducted last week in southern Belize. Murillo explained that when individuals come together under a cooperative structure, they are able to pool resources, formalize operations, and present themselves as viable business entities, making them far more attractive to financial institutions and development partners.
