Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro and acting Prisons Commissioner Hayden Forde have called for faith and unity as law enforcement works to restore peace across the country.

Speaking yesterday at the T&T Police Service’s Worship, Word and Warfare Forum at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain, Guevarro told the crowd, “The nation is in need of healing,” and urged the public to “get some blessings” despite the rain.

“It is the TTPS and the law enforcement personnel that are charged with bringing that healing to this nation, and returning lawfulness where lawlessness exists,” he said, adding, “We intend to bring peace to the nation and we intend to do so in the name of Jesus.”

Forde, acknowledging national security challenges, said, “I know it appears as though the devil is having his way, but I declare today that no weapon formed against us will prosper… We will not be defeated.” He said the prison service continued to work closely with the TTPS, adding, “We have been unearthing so many things that we don’t put in the public space to ensure the public remains safe.”

Also speaking was PC Quianna Mahabir, who survived being shot multiple times during an attempted robbery outside her Caroni apartment on October 22, 2024. Mahabir, who was 30 at the time, was shot in the head, arm and chest. She credited her recovery to divine intervention, saying, “It is not luck, it is not chance. It is God working on my behalf.”

She said her right eye, which had been shut, was reopening and she was regaining feeling in her face. “We must praise God through it all,” she told the audience, urging them to see trials as preparation for a higher purpose.
