Two bandits were arrested shortly after they robbed two people in separate incidents, hours apart, in downtown Port-of-Spain on Saturday.

According to police, a Chaguanas man was standing on the pavement on Independence Square around 10.45 pm when he was confronted by two bandits, one of whom pointed a knife at him, while the other stole his black knapsack, which contained $1,000 in cash, his ID card and bank card. The bandits then fled onto Charlotte Street.

The man reported the robbery to police and was walking towards the Chaguanas Taxi Stand on Independence Square, hours later, when he recognised the two bandits nearby.

He called the police, and officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) visited the area and arrested one of the bandits, an 18-year-old Sea Lots man, as the other suspect ran away.

Hours earlier, a 28-year-old Point Fortin woman was walking on Charlotte Street when she felt someone pull her neck from behind.

As she turned around, she saw a man running away with her gold chain.

The woman called for help as police on patrol nearby saw the bandit running away, eventually catching up to him and arresting him.

The woman later visited the police station, where she identified the man as the bandit who snatched her chain, which was found in his pocket.

The man, who is from Nelson Street, was taken to the Woodbrook Police Station, where he is expected to be charged.
