Cordel Hyde Throws Support Behind Allan Pollard Jr.’s Mayoral Bid

With Allan Pollard Junior having formally entered the race for the People’s United Party’s Belize City mayoral candidacy this morning, he did so with the public backing of one of the party’s most influential leaders.  Love News has obtained a copy of a letter dated June 12, 2026, signed by PUP Deputy Party Leader and Lake Independence Area Representative Cordel Hyde, in which Hyde offers his unequivocal endorsement of Pollard’s candidacy.  In the letter, Hyde wrote that Pollard “has earned his keeps” and highlighted his political service to the party over several election cycles. Hyde noted that Pollard “first ran for us in 2018 when hardly anybody wanted to run” and later “audaciously stepped into Queen’s Square for us when nobody would.”  The endorsement goes on to praise Pollard’s record within the party, stating that he has “topped the polls,” served as deputy mayor, and has been “a consummate team player.”  Hyde also referenced previous occasions when Pollard sought higher office, writing that Pollard wanted to run for mayor in 2024 and later expressed interest in contesting the Port Loyola division, but was asked to wait his turn. According to Hyde, Pollard complied without complaint, noting in the letter that “he didn’t lash out,” “maintained his calm and composure,” and “has been the bigger person.”  The strongest endorsement came near the conclusion of the letter where Hyde declared, “I wholeheartedly endorse Allan Pollard’s candidacy to represent the People’s United Party as Belize City mayoral candidate.”  Speaking with Love News this morning, Allan “Duck” Pollard Senior echoed Hyde’s letter regarding Cordel Hyde’s endorsement.  

Reporter: Do you have the support of Cordel Hyde ? 

Allan Pollard Sr., Father: “A hundred thousand percent. The persons who is endorsing my son right now is Honorable Cordel Hyde, the Deputy Prime Minister of this country. He is endorsing my son at this moment.”

With Hyde’s endorsement now public, it is left to be seen if other senior party figures will signal their support for candidate of choice.
