As preparations continue for our September Celebrations, one of the traditions that remains a major part of the festivities is the annual crowning of the Queen of the Bay. The competition is not only about the pageantry and the crown, but also about selecting a young woman who will serve as an ambassador for Belizean culture, history, and community pride. The Queen of the Bay plays an important role during the September Celebrations, representing the values, traditions, and spirit of our nation while taking part in activities that promote unity, patriotism, and cultural awareness. As part of the initiative, each district will have a representative vying for the national title, including Xioleni Ruiz, who will represent the Corozal District. After 20 years, Ruiz says she is confident that she can bring the crown back home to Corozal. With confidence and determination, she says she is ready to take on the responsibilities that come with the title and represent her district with pride.
For decades, the Queen of the Bay has been a symbol of grace, intelligence, and national pride highlighting young Belizean women who are not only prepared to compete, but also to become role models within their communities. For Ms. Corozal, the journey is about more than winning a title; it is about carrying the hopes of the Corozal District and representing its culture and people on a national stage. As September Celebrations draw closer, contestants from across the country continue their preparations, each hoping to earn the crown and the opportunity to serve as Belize’s Queen of the Bay.
