Government Senator Marlon Morgan has dismissed as poorly thought-out, a proposal by Opposition Spokesman on Education, Damion Crawford, to extend the school day by two hours.
In a strongly worded media release on Sunday, Senator Morgan says the move could lead to burnout among both teachers and students.
The government senator contrasted the opposition’s plan with what he called the measured and transformative strategy of the Andrew Holness-led Jamaica Labour Party administration.
He says the government’s focus is not merely on extending hours, but on elevating the quality of education through targeted and sustainable interventions.
He points to the 2022 Patterson Report on education reform as an example.

The sharp crticism comes as the political debate over education policy intensifies, with both major parties positioning themselves ahead of the next general election.
