CRC Member Disagrees With Portfolio Minister Over Fixed Election Dates

Member of the Constitutional Reform Committee, Hugh Small, says the committee did not agree that fixed election dates are unsuitable for Jamaica.

Legal and Constitutional Affairs Minister, Marlene Malahoo Forte, addressed the subject in her contribution to the Sectoral Debates in 2024.

At the time, she said the committee had agreed that fixed election dates were unsuitable.

But Mr. Small says not so.

Weighing in on the issue, president of the National Democratic Movement, Peter Townsend, says the current flexibility of election dates does not enhance the country’s democratic process.
