Collaboration within the credit union movement is important to strengthen services for members and support the sector’s continued growth.

Montgomery Guy, president of Community Care Credit Union Co-operative Society Limited, made the comment after a meeting with representatives of the Co-operative Credit Union League of Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday at Community Care’s head office in Curepe.

The discussions focused on the current financial environment, regulatory developments and ways to improve services for members. Participants also explored how to strengthen the cooperative model, expand financial inclusion and promote sustainable growth within the sector.

Guy said, “Credit unions are built on cooperation and shared purpose. Engaging with the League allows us to align our priorities, share best practices and collectively strengthen the services we provide to our members.”

He said ongoing engagement with the League reflects Community Care’s commitment to playing an active role in the national credit union movement and advancing initiatives that improve governance, increase member value and support the sector’s long-term sustainability.

Representatives of the League also stressed the importance of continued dialogue with member institutions, saying collaboration helps ensure the sector remains resilient, innovative and responsive to members’ needs.

Both organisations reaffirmed their commitment to working together on advocacy initiatives, member education programmes and other activities aimed at strengthening the credit union movement.

The meeting ended with agreement to maintain regular engagement and explore joint initiatives to support the development of credit unions and the communities they serve.
